Here is a new feature that might interest you all..or not!
Since I live here in Los Angeles, I thought I would take you along with me to some of my favorite places and events
Some new, some old, some current, and some upcoming… but always geek-centric!
Now the events or places visited are not only limited to here in L.A.
My fellow contributors from around the globe here at Fanboy Confidential are more than welcome to share their own “GEEK SPOT”.
To inaugurate our new feature, first up is CREATURE FEATURES . This is actually a re-opening of a store that first opened up in Burbank CA. in the 1980’s…Where artists ,sculptors ,and model builders would sell there wares on consignment. It was also a retail store to get all of your monster magazines and paraphernalia .The old store was frequented by the likes of legend Bob Burns and others on a regular basis .Well, CREATURE FEATURES has resurrected …this time ,10 miles east in Sierra Madre. The recent grand re-opening was attended by such luminaries like Frank Darabont,Greg Nicotero and Mike Hill.
Another “GEEK SPOT” event that is happening this weekend is Eliot Brodsky’s MONSTERPALOOZA
April 8-10th at the Marriott Burbank Hotel and Convention Center.
Geeks and Ghouls, let me tell ya…
If you are a fan of creature effects,make-up and models, this is one event that you will be kicking yourself in the ‘nads or insert female equivalent body here _____ if you miss this convention.
It is a con where professionals and fans alike all congregate for a weekend all in the name and love for all things horror.
I was fortunate enough to attend last years con and I kept on pinching myself and kicking myself in said ‘nads for not knowing about this sooner.Throughout the course of the weekend ,there will be horror-centric films and workshops to entertain the fortunates who are in attendance. But that’s not the best part…within the exhibit hall are vendors, crafts people and artisans that make their living transforming nightmares into reality. MONSTERPALOOZA brings out the Big Guns all weekend long. Not only have makeup masters like Steve Wang,Jordu Schell,Mike Hill been exhibitors here but artists like William Stout,Drew Struzan, and Berni Wrightsen have attended ,along with sculptors like Simon Lee,Gabriel Garcia,Javier Soto, and Tim Gore to name a few.And walking amongst the attendees were Horror icons and fans like Guillermo del Toro,JJ. Abrams,MIke Elizalde, and Rick Baker.
I cannot wait to see what this horrific weekend has in store.
so ’til next time…release your inner fanboy and do something geeky!
