ParaNorman; Boxtrolls; Coraline. LAIKA has been doing stop-motion proud with hit after critical hit and it just announced a brand new film is beginning production for an August 2016 release.
Kubo and the Two Strings takes the plotting to Japan and tells the epic Yokai filled fantasy of a little boy Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones’ house Stark) as he adventures his way from lowly fishing village to his ancestral Samurai heritage. The film will also make use of voice work from the likes of Charlize Theron (MAD MAX) and Matthew McConaughey (INTERSTELLAR), among many others.
Scripting duties will be handled by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler, the same team behind ParaNorman and the current LAIKA CEO Travis Knight will make his feature debut as director. He’s an award winning animator so, I wouldn’t be too worried about his skills behind the wheel.
