We’ve been speculating about this since before the first season of Marvel’s very popular Daredevil tv series aired on Netflix, but now our hopes have been rewarded. Matt Murdoch (Daredevil) has his match in Elektra Natchios.
Actress Elodie Yung has been cast in the role of the troubled woman turned deadly Ninja assassin. Created by comics creator Frank Miller, she’s one of the more memorable supporting characters in the Daredevil mini-verse. In the comics (and also mentioned in season 1 of the tv show) Elektra is of Greek heritage.
I’m a little disappointed they couldn’t cast more accurately, but Elodie is a good actor and her filmography shows she can handle herself on the action side of things so, maybe it’ll work out. I’d probably have Youlika Skafida or even someone more well known like Marie Avgeropoulos (Trancers, The 100) who have both got similar action role backgrounds and the genuine ancestry to boot.
Though Daredevil’s second outing won’t air till sometime next year, you can catch the French-Cambodian’s acting chops in The B13 sequel District 13: Ultimatum. She was also more recently in G.I. Joe: Retaliation as Jinx and will soon be seen in the Alex Proyas (Dark City) directed Gods of Egypt; a fantasy adventure tale where Egyptian gods are real and the world needs a saving.
If you’re unfamiliar with Elektra or only via that poor attempt at a translation starring the awesome Jennifer Garner, it’s best to leave it be and go in cold. You’ll thank us later. Now the wait for Bullseye casting.
