The Story: After commandeering A.I.M island, the super-rich ex-New Mutant, Sunspot, has put together his own Avengers team to specialise in high-speed rescue response, outside the jurisdiction of S.H.I.E.L.D; which is good because the people of Paris are finding their heads are transforming into free-floating crystals and need high-speed rescue, but the villain behind it is a 1000 year-old, alternate Reed Richards, so they might be out of luck.

Why read it?: Taking his lead from Jonathan Hickman’s run on Avengers, rising star, Al Ewing, has put together an unprecedented Avengers team that consists of ex-Young Averngers, Wiccan and Hulkling, Ex-Thunderbolt, Songbird, along with Sunspot, Power Man, White Tiger, Hawkeye and, er, Squirrel Girl, for stories which, from the looks of this issue, are going to be the most original, exciting and thought-provoking of the current crop of Avengers books, all executed with the splendid art of Gerardo Sandoval, which has a dynamism and character design almost as good as Joe Madureira.
