Story: In the times just before the great flood, Cain, the world’s first murderer, cursed to walk the Earth forever, finds it impossible to avoid the barbaric, sinful hordes man has become and must fight everyday to keep what is his, but there is a reckoning coming.

Why read it?: Another phenomenal Image book where the creative team pretty much get free reign, The Goddamned is the brainchild of Southern Bastards‘ Jason Aaron and artist R.M. Guéra, who in the past teamed up to produce Scalped for Vertigo. To those who have never read Scalped, it is quite simply one of the best crime comics ever written. Though of a different genre, this promises to be of equal quality but significantly more original, and considering that it’s a re-imagined approach to characters and stories of biblical importance, potentially quite controversial. Following Cain on his hard as nails path of the damned, with it’s copious amounts of violence, we are looking at some kind of mash-up equal parts Conan, The Bible and Crossed, lord help us all.
